Welcome to 5 Foot Way’s website. We are now based in Bristol and are cooking up delicious Malaysian and other South East Asian street food for markets, supper clubs, student groups, private parties and weddings.
In recent news, we set-up our market stall at a private corporate summer party serving up grills and baos with our friends from Perisa (a new supperclub and caterer based in All Cannings). On the grill we had ayam percik (spicy barbecued chicken quarters), Vietnamese lemongrass pork and some Thai-inspired tofu and vegetable skewers. Our hirata baos were stuffed with either our char siu (Chinese barbecued pork), spicy beef rendang or Chinese wine marinaded aubergine. It was a fabulous day – very hot and sunny, and we were thrilled that the guests kept coming back for more – one chap came back 4 times to have the char siu filled hirata baos!
Then we followed up with our first supperclub in the South West, again with Perisa in their hometown, All Cannings. The menu was inspired by the Flavours of Eid, traditional Malaysian dishes served to celebrate the end of Ramadan. We made our signature satay with peanut sauce which was met with oohs and aahs, and pleas to vacuum pack the chicken skewers and bottle up the sauce to sell from shops!
Perisa served up a stunning Johor laksa, rarely found in the UK, from the home state of owner, Unku. Then we made our festive pulut kunyit, glutinous turmeric rice steamed with coconut milk, served with Perisa’s Minang beef rendang and acar (pickled vegetables). Finally, for dessert there was a light and refreshing lychee coconut flan with lychee jelly and compote, and coconut crisps. We had so much positive feedback from our guests and we are planning to do another supperclub soon.
In the meantime, if you need catering for an event and would like to have Malaysian and other South East Asian grub to fill your guests’ bellies do contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’d love to help.
